Sun Damaged Skin – What is it?
Most of us will have enjoyed the fabulous weather we have had this summer and spent time outdoors and sitting in the sunshine – and there is evidence that sunlight can be good for us, helping the body to make Vitamin D that keeps our bones healthy. But, like many things in life, too much of a good thing can sometimes be harmful. Too much sun can result in sun damaged skin, and this may only starts to become apparent later in life.
Photodamaged or sun damaged skin is something few of us escape. Photodamage occurs with exposure to sunlight (UVA or UVB) whether or not we intentionally suntan. Twenty five percent of our lifetime exposure occurs before the end of our teenage years. Photodamage to skin manifests in a variety of ways including:
• advanced aging or wrinkling.
• uneven or “pebbly” skin.
• irregular pigmentation .
• small blood vessels or red markings (telangiectasias).
• rough or scaly patches (actinic keratoses).
• freckles (ephelides).
• “liver spots” and “age spots” (lentigines).
• thinned or fragile skin.
• pre skin cancers.
• skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma).
For the most part these changes occur most frequently on areas of chronic exposure including the face, ears, neck, backs of the hands, chest, arms and legs. Buttocks or upper inner arms are often preserved and pristine emphasizing the difference between chronological aging and photoaging. Pigmentation is generally the most recognisable symptom of sun damage and one of the most common reasons clients visit the Coast Clinic. Sun damaged skin is a common skin condition which can be treated with a number of methods.
The Epionce Corrective System and Epionce Peel is a dermatological scientifically produced system which is clinically formulated to gently remove the top layer of the skin to effectively rejuvenate and improve the appearance and maximise the health of the skin.
