Sun Damaged Skin – What is it?

Most of us will have enjoyed the fabulous weather we have had this summer and spent time outdoors and sitting in the sunshine – and there is evidence that sunlight can be good for us, helping the body to make Vitamin D that keeps our bones healthy. But, like many things in life, too much of a good thing can sometimes be harmful. Too much sun can result in sun damaged skin, and this may only starts to become apparent later in life.

Photodamaged or sun damaged skin is something few of us escape. Photodamage occurs with exposure to sunlight (UVA or UVB) whether or not we intentionally suntan. Twenty five percent of our lifetime exposure occurs before the end of our teenage years. Photodamage to skin manifests in a variety of ways including:
